A swing moves the puck from one side of the pool to the other — by pass, swim, or both — into space the defense is not covering. Atlantis — Swings.
Deep swing: one or more passes angle back toward your own goal, then across. Slower, more room to complete, useful when the wall is stacked with bodies.
Lateral swing: straight across, often off the wall to a teammate just outside the play. Faster; easier for opposing forwards to pick off if the pass is soft or telegraphed.
When the other team is piled on one wall, swing. When they are already spread across the pool, a swing may buy nothing — push up or recycle instead.
Deep swings leave a path to your goal if the pass is stolen. Keep someone ready to recover. Gaps between forwards and backs: Cycling and Breakaways.
Drawing defenders onto a wall, then opening the far side, is the usual 3-3 swing. Forwards in the 3-3, Scenario Alignment.
